Three Trails Animal Hospital

Senior Pet Care

Since some pets are considered to reach senior age at just 7 years old, it is important to know that senior pets may require some extra TLC. Thanks to improved veterinary care and advancements, our aim is to have senior pets live longer and healthier lives.

Caring For Your Senior Pet

At Three Trails Animal Hospital, we value the time we have with our senior pets. That’s why we believe it is important to manage the potential for age-related conditions so senior pets may enjoy a high quality of life far into their golden years.

Unfortunately, senior pets have weakened immune systems and are at risk for contracting chronic diseases such as diabetes or arthritis. For this reason, we recommend bringing your senior pet in for wellness visits twice a year so that your veterinarian can perform regular check-ups to catch diseases early.

In order to assess their overall condition and health, your veterinarian will likely perform the following tests during a wellness check-up:

  • Bloodwork
  • X-rays
  • Urinalysis

Although it is normal for pets to generally slow down both physically and mentally as they age, we understand you know your pet best. Please keep us informed if there are any sudden changes in your pet’s health or behavior.
